How-the-diabetes-drugs-work.jpg

each drug’s mode of action

  • Metformin: sucks sugar out of bloodstream into liver, muscle and fat; good for your heart.

  • Gliclazide: kicks your pancreas to make more insulin; therefore, watch out for hypos.

  • Gliptin: blocks DPP4, allow incretins to work

  • GLP1s: mimic the action of incretins.

  • Gliflozin: makes you pee out excess sugar.

  • Pioglitazone: makes cells more sensitive to insulin

  • Insulin: weight gain common.

Incretins produced in the gut on eating; â€‹stimulate insulin, delay gastric emptying, and increase satiety
